Bishop Smith extends his best wishes and prayers to athletes from the Diocese of Meath who are representing Ireland in London 2012.  They include Kieran Behan, Natalya Coyle, Joseph Murphy, John Joe Nevin and Cian O’Connor.

“The Olympic Games hold up high ideals of fairness in competition, of friendship between adversaries, of individual achievement and national pride. But, in order to be effective, such ideals need to be put into practice. I want to pay tribute to all the athletes who worked so hard to make it to London 2012 and to acknowledge the pride they are bringing to their families, local communities and to the country”.

An Olympic Prayer

Dear Lord, bless all who take part in the Olympic Games.Keep them safe.  Teach us, in these days, to thank you for the talents you have bestowed upon them. Bless alike our joys and our disappointments. Then, indeed, we will know you, the one true God, in the glory of all you have created. Amen
