Cardinal Braz de Aviz arrived in Mullingar on Saturday evening (12 July 2014) to join Bishop Michael Smith in celebrating the vigil Mass. The Cardinal, a native of Brazil, heads the Vatican department with responsibility for religious sisters, priests and brothers.
Bishop Smith invited members of religious communities from the Diocese of Meath to attend the Mass. Cardinal Braz de Aviz thanked the religious sisters, brothers and priests for their dedicated service to the Church and their local communities.
The Cardinal asked the Cathedral parishioners to pray for the religious and to give witness to the joy that comes from faith and trust in Jesus Christ.
