Hurricane Matthew made landfall on Haiti early on Tuesday 4 October 2016.
With as many as 900 killed and tens of thousands of homes destroyed in Haiti, the devastation caused by Hurricane Matthew is becoming more clear as aid workers are starting to reach remote areas.
Bishop Michael Smith sent a contribution of € 25,000 from the Diocese of Meath to Archbishop Eugene Nugent, the Irish born Apostolic Nuncio to Haiti. The donation included a number of contributions from parishes eager to express their solidarity with the people of Haiti.
“I will be happy to forward this generous gift from Meath Diocese” Archbishop Nugent said “to the four Bishops whose Dioceses have been worst affected by Hurricane Matthew.”
Outside of immediate food, the greatest needs is shelter, water and hygiene supplies.

If any other parishes wish to support these efforts, the donations will be forwarded directly to the Apostolic Nunciature in Haiti.
