This Easter a group of 14 – chaplain Sean Wright, Simon Cadden a teacher in the school and retired teacher Catherine Shiels – travelled to Zambia with 11 students from TY and 5th Year who are taking part in the Pope John Paul II Awards.
The group left Ireland on the 15th of March and are away till the 10th of April. Whilst in Zambia they spent time immersed in a community called Musangu out in the bush getting to know the students and staff in the local area. Returning to Mazabuka for the schools 10th visit the group got to visit the local schools that St Ciarans has been involved with since 2002.
A highlight of the trip has to have been celebrating Easter Sunday Mass with Bishop Moses in St Brigid’s Church. Through the generosity of Bishop Michael Smith and the people of our Diocese and through the hard work of Sr Cellie and Sr Andrea of the Irish Sisters of Mercy, we have seen this local community proudly celebrate Mass in their newly built and consecrated church.
The group will return to Ireland shortly after having seen and experienced many things that have opened our eyes to the many treasures that we have in our friendships with those around us. Rory put the experience like this – “the trip has been something that we will never forget and makes me want to make a change for the better at home and wherever I can”.
