St Ultan’s Golden Jubilee celebrations were marked last Friday with an Open Day at the school with a photographic display entitled “celebrating 50 years of memories” prepared by staff and pupils.
The afternoon concluded with Mass in St Oliver’s Church celebrated by the School Patron, Most Reverend Michael Smith who was joined by Fr Declan Hurley Adm and Fr Robert McCabe (School Chaplain).
The church was filled with current pupils and staff, Boards of Management who gathered with past pupils from 16 years of age to 60 years of age from many parishes around the County.
The school choir was supported by the Marian Singers and a very prayerful congregation.
Bishop Michael expressed his delight in being able to welcome pupils, staff, parents and Boards of Management whom he had first met at the Silver Jubilee celebrations in 1991. He paid tribute to the vision of Fr Abbott and successive Administrators of the parish who have ensured that St Ultan’s is a centre of learning, dignity and support for families around the county.
Bishop Smith blessed a candle for the school which he hopes will mark the journey for the next 50 years.
A reception was held for all guests at Simonstown Club. Music was generously provided by the Navan branch of Comhaltas Ceoiltóirí Éireann.
