Fr Michael V. Daly, RIP

The death has occurred of Fr Michael V. Daly, PE Stamullen & Navan in his 93rd year.

May he rest in peace.

Fr Michael Vincent Daly was born on 7 March 1929 and is a native of Kilmainhamwood.  He attended Maio National School and the Model School in Trim, St Finian’s College and St Patrick’s College, Maynooth where he was ordained on 20 June 1954.

Between 1954 and 1958 he worked in the Diocese of Camden, New Jersey, USA and in 1958-59 he served as Reader in Rochfortbridge and Oldcastle parishes.  From 1959 – 1962 he worked as Chaplain in Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan and from 1962 – 65 he served as Emigrant Chaplain in London.  In September 1965, he was appointed Curate in Rahan where he remained until 1971 when he was transferred to Navan.

He was appointed Administrator in Navan in 1980 and Parish Priest of Stamullen in September 1982.  Fr Daly retired as Parish Priest in September 2004 and continued to help out in many parishes of the Diocese after his retirement.  He resided in Navan since his retirement in 2004 and moved to Millbury Nursing Home in January 2020.

Sadly missed by his brother Matt (Trim), sister Carmel (Camberley, Surrey), sister-in-law, nieces and nephews, relatives, Bishop Tom Deenihan, retired Bishop Michael Smith, clergy of the diocese of Meath, the Knights of St Columbanus, Navan,  friends and former parishioners.

Reposing privately in Fitzsimons Funeral Home  on Sunday 14 March.
Arriving at St Mary’s Church, Navan for Evening Prayer at 7:30pm.
Requiem Mass will be celebrated on Monday 15 March at 10:30am.

Fr Daly’s cortège will pass through Julianstown at 12:30pm via Gormanston for burial at 12:45pm at the Church of St Patrick, Stamullen, County Meath.
