Speaking in advance of Christmas, Bishop Michael Smith thanked the parishes for their efforts to make the Church a place of welcome during the Feast of the Lord’s birth.

“I hope that people will experience that God is close to them this Christmas time. The words of the well known “O Holy Night” set the tone of the invitation which Christmas places before us. “He knows our needs, our weakness is no stranger”. We are invited to celebrate the birth of the Saviour who is attentive to our needs and who bandages our wounds. I encourage families, in preparation for Mass on Christmas day, to avail of the Sacrament of Reconciliation and, in so doing, to experience the true spiritual blessing of the festive season.”
