Catholic Schools Week (29 January – 5 February) is marked with activities, lessons and celebrations in parishes and schools in the Diocese of Meath.
Primary schools have celebrated the lives of Sts John Bosco, Brigid and Blaise. Many schools invited grandparents to visit the school for a prayer assembly.
In some secondary schools, the focus was on teaching teenagers how to pray. Among the resources for Catholic Schools Week is the following reflection on a quote from Blessed John Paul II on prayer:
‘Pray any way you like as long as you do pray.’ We can make time to say a prayer we have been taught, or just take a moment to give thanks. It is good to pray together, for Jesus said that where two or three gather in his name he would be with them. It is also good to pray alone, to use the Bible for inspiration and rediscover how close God is to us through his word. If, in our school, we are Christ’s living body in the world, then let us not forget to make time for prayer just as he did. As Blessed Teresa of Calcutta said: ‘Prayer enlarges the heart and makes room for God’s love.’
Several parishes marked Catholic Schools Week at Sunday Mass. The photo (above) was taken in Kingcourt on Sunday 29 January at 12 noon Mass which had special involvement of grandparents.
