The death has occurred unexpectedly of Fr Seamus Giles, Parish Priest of Castletown-Geoghegan, on Sunday 8 December 2013 at Beaumont Hospital, Dublin.
A native of Longwood, Co. Meath Fr Giles has been the much loved Parish Priest of Castletown-Geoghegan (which also includes Tyrrellspass and Raheenmore) since 1997.
His death was greeted with great sadness by the Bishop and priests of the Diocese of Meath, as well as his parishioners and very many friends and, not least of all, by his devoted family – Laurence, Nancy (Taylor), Fergal, Mary (Hayes) and Pat – their families and friends.
Born on on 29 November 1939, Fr Giles was educated at St Finian’s College, Mullingar (1953-58) and St Patrick’s College, Maynooth (1958-1965) where he was ordained on 20 June 1965. He served as fulltime teacher and chaplain in Tullamore Vocational School (1966 – 1976), then as Curate in Kells (1976-1982) and Clara (1982 – 1991). He was appointed Parish Priest of Dysart in September 1991 before he became Parish Priest of Castletown-Geoghegan.
Bishop Michael Smith was joined in the Requiem Mass on Thursday 12 December, Feast of St Finian, by Bishop John Buckley, Bishop Denis Nulty and a large number of priests from the Diocese of Meath and throughout the country.
