Mullingar Parish Mission, 29 March – 2 April 2014

The Parish Mission is conducted by Fr Denis McBride CSSR, Director of Redemptorist Publications in the UK.  Fr McBride is a noted Scripture scholar and author of numerous publications.  The Parish Mission has a strong focus on the Word of God, looking at the life of Jesus through the witness of his disciples.  Fr McBride’s message is that discipleship requires witness, which comes first from knowing and loving Jesus.  The programme includes an emphasis on the participation of children and young people, as well as a guided prayer before the Blessed Sacrament (led by the Franciscan Sisters of the Renewal, Drogheda) and the Anointing of the Sick for those burdened by illness of the body, mind or spirit.  The Parish Mission is part of the celebrations marking the 75th anniversary of the consecration of the Cathedral of Christ the King.

St Mary’s Parish, Navan – “Pilgrimage through Lent with Pope Francis”

This series takes place on Wednesday evenings of Lent.  Parishioners gather in St. Mary’s Church, the Blessed Sacrament is exposed and they recite Evening Prayer of the Church together.  The priests of the parish take it in turns to speak about some aspect of the Christian life through the prism of the writings and speeches/homilies of Pope Francis.  To date, Fr Declan Hurley has spoken about “Pope Francis and discipleship”;  Fr Stephen Kelly has spoken about “Pope Francis and Faith”; and Fr Louis Illah about “Pope Francis and Repentance”.  The evening concludes with Benediction.

On the Tuesday of Holy Week, the parish will once again hold our a Day of Prayer for Forgiveness.  A prayer path is created in St. Mary’s Church and parishioners are invited to take the prayer path, stopping at different points in the church to pray for forgiveness and healing.  Confession is available all day.
