On Wednesday 13 November 2013, Bishop celebrated the Rite for the Ordination of a Deacon at St Mary’s Church, Drogheda.

The new deacon, Reverend Benedict Maria, is a member of the Benedictine monks at Silverstream Priory in Stamullen, Co. Meath.

The Monastery of our Lady of the Cenacle was established, under the Rule of Saint Benedict, by the Most Reverend Edward J. Slattery, Bishop of Tulsa, Oklahoma, during the Year of the Priest (2009-2010).

In February 2012, with the blessing of Bishop Michael Smith, the monks relocated to the Diocese of Meath.

The ecclesial mandate of the fledgling community is to intercede for the sanctification of priests by “persevering with one mind in prayer with Mary, the Mother of Jesus” (Acts 1:14) and in adoration and reparation before the Eucharistic Face of Christ.

The ordination ceremony was attended by friends of the monastery.  A number of priests from the Diocese of Meath and elsewhere concelebrated the Mass.
