The death has been announced of Fr Laurie Halpin, RIP.
A native of Clonmellon parish, Fr Halpin was ordained in St Patrick’s College, Maynooth in 1959, following which he was on loan to the Diocese of Ossory for a number of years.
He served as Curate in the parishes of Skryne (1967- 1977) and Dunboyne (1977 – 1987). He was appointed Parish Priest of Dysart in September 1987 and moved then to Kilbeggan as Parish Priest in September 1991.
Fr Halpin retired in September 2008 and died in Knightsbrook Nursing Home on Saturday 12 March, Trim where he has resided since December 2010.
He is mourned by his former parishoners, his brother Peter, his sisters Eileen and Evelyn, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, grand-nephews grand-nieces, relatives, friends, residents and staff of Knightsbridge Nursing Home, Trim, Co. Meath.
Bishop Michael Smith and priests of the Diocese of Meath will concelebrate the Requiem Mass in the Parish Church in Kilbeggan on Tuesday 15 March at 12 noon.
