A Mass was organised by Polish chaplain, Fr Janusz Lugowski, and celebrated by Bishop Michael Smith on Sunday 10 November 2013 in St Mary’s Church, Navan.
A large congregation, principally from the Polish community in Meath took part in the bi-lingual Mass, which marked Independence Day in Poland.
The Bishop thanked the Polish community for their contribution to the faith communities where they live and the civic society where they work. He encouraged the community to practice the faith which they had received from their families in Poland and to find ways of expressing the faith in their new homes in Ireland.
The Mass, which included readings and hymns in Polish and English, was concelebrated by the Fr Janusz and music was provided by a choir who assist the chaplain.
After the final blessing, the community heard from several speakers, some of whom spoke about the background to Polish Independence Day.
