Good Friday is a day of intense prayer and devotion for the Church in the Diocese of Meath. Ceremonies are taking place at almost every hour in various churches. From early morning until late at night, parishes have arranged the Stations of the Cross, the Passion of the Lord, Prayer around the Cross and numerous opportunities for confessions.
Bishop Smith presides at ceremonies in his mensal parish of Navan. These include the Way of the Cross in St Oliver’s Church at 10am and his participation in the ecumenical procession through the town, beginning at 12 noon. The Bishop also presides at the Passion of the Lord in St Mary’s Church at 3pm.
Outdoor commemorations of the Lord’s passion are taking place along the streets of several towns in the Diocese of Meath, including Drogheda at 10.30am, Kingscourt at 12 noon, Mullingar at 3pm Castlepollard at 6pm and in Tullamore by candlelight at 9pm.
Liturgies for children and young people are celebrated in a number of parishes including Laytown at 12 noon, Walterstown at 3pm and Mullingar at 6pm.
