The event provides an opportunity for young people (aged 12 – 18 years) to express their views, share ideas and receive support from each other during this Year of Faith. The theme of this year’s event is “Life is a Gift!” and the one day conference will bring together students and youth workers from a variety of settings including parish youth councils, youth choirs, parish groups and RE departments.

Organisers are hoping that parishes throughout Ireland will be represented and that the conference will help young people see that life is a wonderful gift to be enjoyed and lived to the full.

Looking forward to the event Niamh Burke, Chairperson of the Tullamore Junior Parish Pastoral Council said

“When we had our first conference our aim was to bring young people from all the different parishes in Ireland together to celebrate our faith and focus on positive things relevant to our lives, and now four years on the aim is still the same”

The main speaker will be Joan Freeman, a psychologist who established Pieta House, a respected and recognised service for those who are suicidal. Joan will share her experiences and give insight into suicide among young people in a way that is appropriate to youth. Other speakers include Jonny Somerville, National Coordinator of Youth Alpha Ireland, and Scott Evans the author of ‘Closer Still’; both have worked extensively in youth ministry. Will Faulkner from Midlands 103 will be the MC for the day.  A new aspect to the programme this year will be a series of interactive workshops. These sessions will address key aspects  of youth work such as Setting up a Junior Parish Pastoral Council, Setting up a Youth Prayer Group, Music Ministry, and Youth Alpha. There will be a variety of music provided by well known acts “Without Walls”  and“Ruaille Buaille” to entertain those attending the conference.

The cost of the event is € 5 (which includes light lunch and refreshments).
